District 4 Food Relief Program Launches in May
Partnership Between Supervisor Doug Chaffee and Friendly Center Expands Access to Free Groceries and Support Services
Orange County, CA — [April 27, 2026] Supervisor Doug Chaffee’s office has partnered with Friendly Center to bring critical food relief to families in Orange County’s Fourth District, with services launching on May 6.
Through this collaboration, eligible District 4 residents will receive access to free, healthy groceries through Friendly Center’s Friendly-Mart program in Buena Park. The program is designed to assist individuals and families experiencing food insecurity as rising costs of living and reductions in public benefits continue to strain household budgets.
“Food insecurity continues to grow in our county with new requirements for CalFresh and increased everyday costs. Friendly Center has been a lifeline for families in Orange County, especially in District Four,” said Chaffee. “I am grateful to partner with Friendly Center to expand their Food Relief Program to help District Four families access nutritious, culturally responsive food.”
In addition to food assistance, participants will be connected to a range of supportive services provided by Friendly Center, including case management, educational programs, and family support resources aimed at promoting long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
“This support from Supervisor Chaffee’s office comes at a critical moment and will allow Friendly-Mart to open two additional days each week to serve District 4 families,” said Dr. Kenia Cueto, President and CEO of Friendly Center. “Because of this collaboration, more individuals can access food in a way that is dignified, safe, and culturally responsive. We are grateful.”
Founded in 1924, Friendly Center is the oldest continuously operating nonprofit organization in Orange County. For more than a century, it has served local families through a comprehensive, wraparound approach that addresses both immediate needs and long-term success.
Residents interested in participating may register for an appointment directly through the Friendly Center website. Food distributions are designed to be efficient, accessible, and respectful of each family’s dignity and needs.
