Stocks

Donate Stocks, Securities, & Mutual Funds
Securities are a great option for donors who have held stocks or bonds for an extended period, especially when capital gains tax would take a significant portion of the appreciated proceeds at liquidation. Gifts of appreciated securities enable you to make a contribution to Friendly Center while eliminating costs and tax impact. Donations can be made by contacting your broker and requesting that the desired number of shares be transferred electronically to Friendly Center’s account. To get started, please contact Arian Ghiacy, Director of Development, at arian@friendlycenter.org or (714) 769-8869.

Workplace Giving

Building Stronger Communities together

Payroll deduction is one of the easiest ways to support Friendly Center. Simply ask your human resources department to automatically deduct funds from your paycheck on a one-time basis, or recurring each pay period.

Offering a workplace giving campaign is a great opportunity to incorporate philanthropy into your corporate culture and demonstrate your commitment to ending poverty. Providing an effective employee giving campaign sends a strong message to employees and stakeholders that you are interested in engaging them. Encouraging employees to give back builds a sense of community among the workforce and provides them with an opportunity for team building. Inspiring employees to join in a charitable giving campaign is a great way to improve employee morale, relations, and retention.

Crowdfunding as an organization allows your employees to rally as a community to raise funds. Friendly Center offers a crowdfunding online platform where employees collectively donate towards a given monetary goal. With this program, employees work as a team and benefit in knowing their workplace cares for the community, while the company earns reputation as a good-hearted organization.

Did you know that many companies double, even triple, charitable donations made by employees? Some companies also match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses. Check with your Human Resources Department to see if your company offers a matching gift program or workplace giving program. Email us at donations@friendlycenter.org to let us know if you plan on using a match so we can help track it.

Tributes and Honorary Gifts

Honorary gifts are a meaningful way to pay tribute to those you love. You can make a gift in the name of loved ones to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or in someone’s memory or honor. If you have additional questions about Tributes and Honorary gifts, please contact Arian Ghiacy, Director of Development, at arian@friendlycenter.org or (714) 769-8869.

Setting Up a Legacy

You can make a lasting impact on thousands of local children and families in poverty by including Friendly Center in your will, or by naming Friendly Center as a beneficiary of a retirement/savings account, life insurance policy, or charitable trust.

If you have included Friendly Center in your estate plans, please be sure to let us know so we can properly thank you for your generosity.

For all estate planning decisions, we recommend consulting with an attorney or financial advisor.

You can make a charitable bequest by including language in your will that names Friendly Center as the beneficiary of your estate through bequeathing a specific dollar amount or percentage to Friendly Center. Beyond making a lasting impact towards ending poverty in Orange County, making a charitable bequest has many advantages – including easing the estate tax burden on your family and keeping control of your assets during your lifetime.

Types of assets used to fund a bequest include the following:

  • Cash
  • Appreciated Securities
  • Real Estate
  • Other Personal Property

In addition to leaving a legacy, there may be tax advantages for making a gift or naming Friendly Center as a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets, bank accounts or a life insurance policy.

Retirement Plan Assets may be a particularly effective way to fund a charitable bequest. Depending upon the size of your estate, income and estate taxes may consume a large portion of this asset. By naming Friendly Center as a beneficiary, you may be able to substantially reduce or even eliminate your tax liability.

Charitable IRA Rollover allows taxpayers age 70-1/2 and above to donate up to $100,000 directly from their Individual Retirement Account to a charity without treating the distribution as taxable income. Rollover gifts transferred directly to Friendly Center may also be used to meet a donor’s required minimum distribution.

Life Insurance Policies can also serve as a significant gift while simultaneously providing you with a current income tax deduction for the cash value and any premiums you pay in the future. Either through a charitable gift of an existing life insurance policy, or by naming Friendly Center as a beneficiary, you have an opportunity to amplify your legacy and the impact of your generosity for years to come.

Gift Annuities are a simple way to make a charitable gift. Cash or appreciated securities are given to Friendly Center and the donor receives income for life. In addition to qualifying for an immediate tax-deduction, a portion of the income received is tax free.

Charitable Remainder Trusts offer a triple advantage. You receive an immediate tax-deduction for a charitable gift; the assets are removed from your estate avoiding future estate taxes; and you, or someone named by you, can receive a lifetime of income from your gift to Friendly Center.

Charitable Lead Trusts can be established naming Friendly Center as beneficiary of a specified percentage of income from a trust for a specific number of years. Ultimately, the residual value of the trust reverts to other named beneficiaries, such as children or grandchildren.
